NURS 3565 - Psychiatric Nursing Clinical

This clinical course provides hands-on application of psychiatric-mental health nursing concepts, enabling students to deliver safe, compassionate, evidence-based care to clients experiencing mental health disorders across diverse populations and clinical settings. Through direct patient care experiences in varied psychiatric environments, high-fidelity simulations, interprofessional collaboration, and guided clinical reflection with faculty supervision, students will develop therapeutic communication skills, clinical judgment, and the ability to implement and evaluate recovery-oriented interventions while navigating the complexities of real-world mental health care. By the end of this course, learners will demonstrate competency in conducting comprehensive mental health assessments, implementing individualized nursing interventions, evaluating the effectiveness of evidence-based care plans including goals, outcomes, and interventions, collaborating with interprofessional teams, managing psychiatric emergencies safely, and providing culturally competent, patient-centered care that promotes recovery and optimal functioning for individuals with psychiatric health disorders across the lifespan and in diverse healthcare settings. Fall and Spring semesters.Clinical 3 clock hours. Prerequisites: Completion of the following courses with a C or higher: NURS 3150, NURS 3155, NURS 3160, NURS 3165, NURS 3170 or Accelerated BSN major or Associate Dean approval. Corequisites: NURS 3300, NURS 3550, NURS 3555, NURS 3560 or RN-BSN major or Accelerated BSN major or Associate Dean approval. Open to Nursing majors only. Differential course fee will be assessed. Satisfactory/No Credit.
