NURS 4150 - Medical Surgical Nursing 2 (4) Credit Hours
Medical Surgical Nursing II builds upon foundational nursing knowledge to prepare learners for complex clinical decision-making in the care of adults experiencing multifaceted health alterations across diverse healthcare settings. Through active learning strategies including case-based discussions, clinical reasoning exercises, evidence-based practice application, and collaborative problem-solving activities, learners will integrate knowledge from nursing science and interdisciplinary fields to address the biological, psychological, social, cultural, and environmental factors that influence patient outcomes. By the end of this course, learners will demonstrate competency in synthesizing complex clinical data to prioritize nursing interventions, advocate for patient-centered care decisions, evaluate the impact of social determinants of health on vulnerable populations, and apply therapeutic communication and teaching-learning principles to promote optimal health outcomes for adults with complex health needs. Every semester. Lecture 4 hours.Prerequisites: Completion of the following courses with a C or higher: NURS 3300 , NURS 3550 , NURS 3555 , NURS 3560 , NURS 3565 or Associate Dean approval. Corequisites: NURS 4410 , NURS 4420 , NURS 4155 or RN-BSN major or Associate Dean approval. Open to Nursing majors only. Differential course fee will be assessed.
