Professor Rebecca Shortridge, Head

Accounting is the foundation of business, focusing on tracking, managing, and analyzing financial data to ensure financial health and compliance. With advanced tools and technology, accountants play a key role in guiding business decisions, forecasting trends, and identifying growth opportunities. As businesses become more complex, the demand for skilled accountants who can interpret data and provide strategic insights continues to rise, opening up exciting career opportunities in public accounting, businesses, sports franchises, non-profit organizations, the FBI, and many others.

The mission of the Department of Accounting is to provide an innovative accounting education that inspires and supports a diverse student body for professional careers in accounting and business.

As part of the mission we:

  • Provide an innovative accounting education that includes experiential learning, professional development, and career preparation through an invested and caring faculty.
  • Conduct research emphasizing basic and applied scholarship in accounting and business.
  • Collaborate with local and regional stakeholders to build and maintain value-added partnerships that address business and societal needs.
  • Foster a culture of collegiality and engagement among students, faculty, and alumni.
